FALSE MYTHS ABOUT SKIN CARE

There are a wide range of misconceptions associated with skin care. These myths and their conspiracies have surely been the focus of more than one of our conversations. These are the myths we all share and are sometimes confused about.

Let's start by listing them and explaining each one. Here we go, Unicskiners :

1. Are the best cosmetics usually the most expensive?

Every skin type has a need, and that lack doesn't have to be met by a more expensive product than another. There are many brands that offer a wide variety of products with extremely high concentrations of active ingredients that are affordable for many budgets. The difference here is the budget each company can allocate to marketing.

2. If you use the same cosmetics for a long time, do they stop being effective?

Active ingredients are always beneficial for our skin. They continue to be beneficial over time, even if our skin has grown accustomed to using them. There are ingredients that act the same way even after months, even years, have passed.

3. If you have dry skin, is it better to drink a lot of water?

Dry skin can be due to several factors. It's true that sometimes the cause is a lack of hydration, but this doesn't mean everyone with dry skin is due to dehydration. Sometimes the cause is a lack of lipids in the skin. In these cases, it's best to avoid highly astringent cleansing with soaps and using very hot water on your face.

4. Does applying a higher sun factor provide more protection?

Using sunscreen doesn't provide more protection from the sun, but the higher the sunscreen, the longer we can be exposed to the sun without fear of burning. Above a certain level, there are few added benefits compared to a lower SPF. Experts generally recommend using an SPF of at least 30, which blocks up to 97% of UVB radiation.

5. Do cosmetic products expire?

Most products do have an expiration date. It should generally be written on the bottom. It's usually indicated in months. Once opened and unused for a long time, products degrade and can become a source of bacteria on the skin, so if a year goes by without applying the product, it can be thrown straight into the trash without a guilty conscience.
